Spanish Peas and Ham, or Guisantes con Jamón in Spanish, is as simple as it sounds. Basically, you have to cook your peas and ham together with garlic, onion, and a bit of white wine, and you have a delightful dish that is ready to serve in no time.

I told you it is that simple!

This Spanish Peas and Ham Recipe is a popular Spanish tapas being served in Madrid, Spain. Most of the time, it is served with a good amount of bread.

So, you are trying to make your own Guisantes con Jamón at home. What peas do you use? We are using canned peas in this recipe and even adding in the liquid that comes with it for convenience. If you prefer frozen peas, boil them following package instructions.

Did you know? Peas are part of a group of foods called legumes. They originally come from the Middle East but have become an essential part of Spanish cuisine.

And then there’s the ham. With so many great hams, especially in Spain, which one do you use? While you can always use leftover ham for this recipe, if you are at the market choosing a ham for this dish, serrano ham is your best bet. Learn more about your choices here as we uncover the difference between Serrano and Iberico ham, among others.
